Harøya & Finnøya

IP Huse is rooted on Harøya — a community of around 1,000 people from over 20 nationalities, living on a pair of islands at the edge of the Norwegian Sea.

Nordøyvegen bridge connecting the islands to the mainland

Connected to the mainland via Nordøyvegen, the island chain is just 40 minutes from Ålesund. You’ll have a city when you need one — and the ocean at your doorstep every day.

Harøya has a school from grade 1 to 10, a kindergarten, a sports hall with a climbing wall, and some of the most rewarding coastal hiking in Western Norway. The Harøy Sports Club runs a modern indoor football hall, an outdoor stadium, and organized activities for all ages.

The people here have always looked outward. The ocean has been central to their identity for generations, and today’s industries still reflect that deep connection. It may be this openness that has drawn people from so many different backgrounds to call these islands home.

Whether it’s fishing off the rocks, disc golf on the hillside, or a Saturday afternoon at the sports club — daily life here is shaped by nature and community in equal measure. For families, the combination of safe surroundings, short distances, and an active outdoor culture makes for a quality of life that’s hard to match.

Nordøyane

Harøya and Finnøya are part of Nordøyane — a string of six islands along the dramatic west coast of Norway, where fjords meet the open ocean.

The region consists of Lepsøya, Haramsøya, Flemsøya, Fjørtofta, Harøya, and Finnøya — all connected by bridges and tunnels. Together they form a vibrant, close-knit community with a shared maritime heritage stretching back centuries.

From the peaks of Haramsøya to the windswept shores of Fjørtofta, each island has its own character — yet they share a spirit of openness and resilience that defines life on the Norwegian coast.

The region is home to a thriving cultural scene — from the internationally noted Havgaprock festival to award-winning community theater. There are hiking peaks to conquer, lighthouses to visit, and a coastline that draws sea eagles, seals, and whale watchers alike.
